The Ultimate Skincare Regime
Know your skin type
The first thing you have to do is to determine your skin type. There are many guides you can use to determine your skin type but if you require extra help, you can also go for a facial and seek the advice of your beautician.
After cleansing your skin, walk around for a bit and observe your skin after.
The Best Order for Skin Care Products
The rule of thumb is to start with thin consistency then go progressively thicker. And always make sure cleansing is done thoroughly with exfoliation once or twice a week! A good cleansing routine is important to prevent acne breakouts and clogged pores that will decrease the efficacy of our skincare products without stripping it of its natural oils.
Spending hundreds on your skincare products but only a few seconds on the cleansing part of your skincare routine will definitely not be doing justice to your wallet.
Moving on from the cleanser, a toner is not an absolute must but so good to have because there are so many of them, you will need to get the right kind for your skin’s needs.
Toner
Most toners prep your skin to better absorb your skincare products. It removes any remaining debris on your skin and depending on the actives, they can exfoliate/ hydrate…etc your skin too.
Serums
A serum’s particle size is small enough to penetrate deeper into the skin and it is one of the must haves for any good skincare routine. You would want one with powerful actives that suit your skin’s needs (e.g. hyaluronic acid serum for hydration. Different brands have different formulations so even if the product contains HA, the effects of it can differ from brand to brand.
People usually seek serums to address pertinent skin concerns! I like mine to fight signs of aging.
Moisturizer
There is a difference between a day cream and a night cream. Choose the right one that works together with your serum. Most brands have good pairing, products that complement each other!
A good moisturizer serves to protect your skin barrier and seal in all the goodness of the serum. Especially important in cold countries or air-conditioned environments.
Too much moisturizer or a moisturizer that is too rich could however accelerate skin aging, dullness…etc (this should be a topic on its own) so use a moisturizer sparingly and you really don’t have to smear it all over your face!
Sunscreen
Some people consider this to be the most important product. Living in a tropical country I will have to agree. The good benefits of wearing a sunscreen every single day since I was a teen are proving themselves now as I compare my skin to those who do not. Use a good sunscreen on your face and neck now and you will thank yourself 10 years later when you don’t have to spend more money on anti-aging products!
