How can we deal with Mascne and clogged pores?
Masks trap moisture and bacteria inside, causing your skin to be in contact with them for prolonged periods of time. The humid environment enables acne causing bacteria to thrive and possibly lead to mascne.
Here are some tips you can try to keep breakouts at bay:
1) Use a pH balanced face wash that has exfoliating acids like salicylic acid so that excess oil and dead skin is better removed. Remember to double cleanse and lather, gently massage your skin for at least 20 secs when cleansing.
2) A high-frequency wand is a great way to kill bacteria and reduce inflammation of the skin. When electricity passes through the inert gas in the tube, oxygen molecules that create an anti-bacterial action as bacteria cannot survive in oxygen rich environments.
3) Use a toner mid-day and before a workout session. Spray some toner on your skin before gently wiping with a cotton pad. What you see on the cotton pad after would reflect the cleanliness of your skin as the toner extracts the sweat, oil, dirt, and debris. A non-drying moisturising toner that does not leave your skin feeling dry and taut will be better!
4) Chemically exfoliating a couple times a week (with AHA, BHA, Glycolic acid…etc) would be better than physical exfoliation. Just remember to start off at a gentle concentration of the acids and take note of purging (previous article) which could happen!
5) Use pimple patches on pimples, even budding ones. These hydrocolloid plasters draw all the puss and oil from the pimples. It also prevents you from picking at the pimple, an action that could aggravate the pimple and cause further inflammation. The best part is you can have 10 of those under your mask and nobody would know.
